Complete Story
Imagining Possibilities with EORO!
by Edward Colozzi
A few months ago a small independent film slowly started opening in theaters across the nation. It is called, "What The Bleep Do We Know" and challenges our paradigms about life in some visually intriguing and entertaining ways. You can locate where it is showing on the Internet (www.whatthebleep.com) and then click on to the Show Dates Map on the left of the website home page. You might enjoy the references to the "power of belief "and "imagining possibilities"--a couple of familiar themes that relate to self efficacy and career development.
I think career counselors are in the business of promoting the power of belief. Much of what we do focuses on unlocking the hold of "old baggage beliefs" and facilitating human potential so our clients are better able to contribute to this planet in ways that provide them with a sense of meaning and purpose. The work we do also provides us with meaning and purpose. Collectively we have a huge amount of positive energy to spread nationally and internationally!
In a few short months over a thousand of us will met in Orlando at Disneyworld, share stories, learn from each other, and then travel back to our regular lives and jobs having once again renewed our spirits, hearts and minds. And for the second year, the http://209.235.208.145/cgi-bin/WebSuite/tcsAssnWebSuite.pl?AssnID=NCDA&DBCode=130285&Action=DisplayTemplate&Page=AWS_NCDA2_membership_each.html">Each One Reach One (EORO) campaign banner will be a reminder of the many blessings we all share through our association with NCDA.
Our organization is small enough to generate a "family" feeling, and large enough to make a difference through the many varied activities of our diverse membership. The EORO campaign is simply a way of recognizing you and your efforts to promote excellent career development in your work setting and community. There are intrinsic rewards associated with reaching out to someone and contributing to their lives in any number of meaningful ways. One state, Michigan, adopted EORO as a statewide program, and hundreds of our members took time prior to or during the annual conference to fill out their Accomplishment forms.
The conference theme for 2005 is"Career Development: Building on Foundations & Imagining Possibilities", a truly fitting call for renewing our efforts with EORO. Membership IS the key to any healthy organization, and EURO is a vehicle for increasing and activating our members nationally and internationally. And thanks to NCDA's partnership with our corporate sponsor, Junior Achievement, many members will again win valuable prizes totaling over $2000--a small way to say "thanks" for doing the great jobs you all are doing!
Imagine if each of you reading this article became involved with this campaign this year? Imagine if your selected Accomplishment Option was to encourage a colleague to join NCDA or to join a committee or volunteer to give a talk in your community about a career development topic? Imagine the possibilities!
There are many diverse Accomplishment Options from which to choose to match our diverse membership. We need YOUR participation and enthusiasm to make possibilities come true for NCDA.
This year EORO will continue its initiatives to encourage members to get involved through many NCDA programs such as the mentoring program, the Orlando teleconference, efforts to increase CDF, graduate student and minority/underrepresented involvement, and outreach activities to increase k-12 counselor participation with NCDA.
Please take the time to participate and encourage your colleagues to get involved with EORO this year. To be eligible for the prizes to be presented at the 2005 Orlando Conference, you do not need to be present. However, you must register a new Accomplishment that was or will be completed between July 2004 and the Orlando Conference in June 2005. (Thus, an Accomplishment registered before last year's drawing will not make you eligible for this years drawings).
