Honorable Mentions:

We would be remiss if we did not recognize the other outstanding nominees for the NCDA Career Development Facilitator Award 2010.

Kristina Ierardi, GCDF
Cape Cod Community College, West Barnstable, Massachusetts

Kristina Ierardi serves as the Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement at Cape Cod Community College (CCCC) in West Barnstable, Massachusetts. In her role at CCCC, Kristina provides career development and placement assistance to over 4,500 students each year. She provides classroom presentations, administers and interprets formal assessments, guides students through occupational research, and a multitude of other career development tasks that enhance the career development of the students. Her CDF Instructor, Jim Peacock, says “She impressed me from the beginning. Kristina is innovative and possesses the highest of professional standards in all that she does. Her efforts to improve her Career Decision Making class at CCCC have impressed me over the years as she consults with me and others on textbooks and other assignments as ways to reach her students in the best way possible.”

Elizabeth Craig, GCDF
ELC Global, LLC, Eden Prairie, Minnesota

Elizabeth Craig is a GCDF and CEO/President of ELC Global, LLC in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Her colleagues states that "Elizabeth is a lifelong learner and loves sharing all she learns with others. Her enthusiasm is contagious and provides those she is involved in with purpose, hope, and meaning in their own lives and those they serve".  One of Ms. Craig's clients states "...with my action plan, I am now focused on a career path and retraining that fits my short term and long-range career goals. You know exactly the questions to ask to get me to where I want to be quickly. I couldn't do this without your master of career strategy".  A former Fortune 100 Senior VP/CFO states "I liked your enthusiasm and encouragement. I've been very reticent to go back to the market, and you helped me to get over this hump. It was very helpful to bounce around disconnected ideas...helpful for me to coalesce my thoughts...good sounding board to discuss. The most helpful part was the conversations that helped me to distill a game plan".

It is with great pleasure that we recognize Ms. Elizabeth Craig as another outstanding Global Career Development Facilitator.

Lisa A. Harsh, GCDF
Project Succeed Program, Northwest College, Powell, Wyoming

Lisa A. Harsh, GCDF and Career and Transfer Coordinator, Project Succeed Program, Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming was nominated by her supervisor and colleague Cindy Newberry Childs. Ms. Childs states "she ensures that each of our students makes a career plan and lists appropriate actions, and then assists our students as they work to accomplish those steps". A few ways she accomplishes this task is by arranging meetings with community members and students to understand more about careers; organizing disciple-specific career panels; presenting workshops on careers, transfer, and financial resources; assisting students in creating a viable Plan B for themselves as they prepare for admission to selective programs; organizing job shadowing opportunities; corresponding with alumni; and many other activities. Lisa Smith, the former Academic Success Coordinator for Project Succeed and current NWC Institutional Research Coordinator, states "Lisa exemplifies excellent student service by consistently treating students respectfully as she tailors career resources to each individual student."

It is with great pleasure that we recognize Lisa Harsh as another outstanding Global Career Development Facilitator. 

Angela Goss, GCDF
St. James High School, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Angela Goss serves as the Career Development Specialist for St. James High School in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. In her role as Career Development Specialist, Angela works with over 1,000 students. She administers and interprets assessments, creates career folders, and further guides students in the career development process. Elizabeth Intrieri, Guidance Counselor, states “Angela certainly personifies the spirit that we wish to instill in all of our students – the spirit of excellence. This outstanding GCDF has a phenomenal work ethic, with a determined, positive attitude to match. She sets a positive example for everyone to follow, and is respected by students, parents, and faculty alike. Another colleague, Jeanna Johnson comments “Angela has played a key role in building a bridge for communication between our middle and high school programs, recruits community business program supporters, and provides resources and training to our department faculty and students.”

Thomas Stowell, GCDF
Private Consulting Practice and The George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

Thomas Stowell, GCDF, Private Consulting Practice and Assistant Director for Career and Consulting Services at the University Career Center, The George Washington University, was nominated by Dr. Rebecca Dedmond, Director of School Counseling, The George Washington University. Rebecca states “Tom Stowell adequately portrays the depth and breadth of his knowledge and advancement in the Global Career Development Facilitator credential. He is committed to helping us further refine our definitions, understanding, and usefulness of broader career development theory and concepts in a variety of settings, in order to benefit a wide array of individuals.  This is so critical in the 21st Century.” Amy Brinkman, Katherine Fazel, and Mary Kadlec, colleagues from The George Washington University state “During his tenure with GSEHD, Tom crafted a comprehensive proposal to establish a career center for the school. The plan included an innovative approach to provide tailored career services to students and alumni of the school. This plan provided the foundation for establishing school-specific career services that are currently underway.”

It is with great pleasure that we recognize Tom Stowell as another outstanding Global Career Development Facilitator.

Jessica Green, GCDF
Ocean Bay Middle School, Myrtle each, South Carolina

Jessica Green, GCDF, Ocean Bay Middle School, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is responsible for coordinating and presenting professional development workshops in career development and guidance for teachers, school counselors, and work-based constituents. She also assists schools in promoting the goals of quality career development of students in grades six through eight. Benjamin Hardee, Directory of CTE/Guidance for Horry County Schools nominated Ms. Greene for this award. He states “Ms. Greene is an excellent Career Development Facilitator with a true love for her students and a desire to see each and every one of them succeed. She exhibits wonderful personal and professional characteristics that serve as an example and asset within her school.” Another colleague, Malene Baxley, states “She has developed innovative approaches to career development that have minimal expense but comprehensive advantages for the students.”

Loretta Dawson, GCDF
Workforce Investment Board of Solano County, Fairfield and Vallejo, California

Loretta Dawson, GCDF, serves as a Job Readiness/Workshop Specialist II for the Workforce Investment Board of Solano County in Fairfield and Vallejo, California. Lauralyn Bauer, Division Chair of Counseling for Napa Valley College, nominated Loretta for this award. Lauralyn states “Loretta is a highly experienced professional in the career development field. She is innovative, creative, and dedicated to assisting and supporting students, community members, alumni, and youth. She has an amazing talent connecting with diverse populations. Her expertise, her knowledge, and her guidance has helped so many people make a change in their lives.” Loretta has also created her own business, Career Create in American Canyon which allows her to further support the local community with career planning, resume development, interview preparation, and important and timely labor market information that impacts so many people during this difficult and challenging economic time.

Ahmed Mostafa Kamal, CDF Instructor
Omrania Sharkia – Giza, Egypt

Ahmed Mostafa Kamal has worked tirelessly over the past two years to introduce the Arab world to the Career Development Facilitator program. He was the first NCDA CDF trained instructor in Egypt and since that time has graduated 2 CDF classes. His care and concern about his students was evident in the many letters of recommendations received by the NCDA office. Numerous students commented that Eng. Mostafa is dependable, discrete, likeable, loyal, honest, enthusiastic, and realistic in his expectations. He did not stop working hard when he stepped down from 20 years of hard core IT in modern infrastructures and communications. He continues to be one of the most effective members at the grassroots level.

It is with great pleasure that we recognize the numerous efforts of Ahmed Mostafa Kamal in promoting the Career Development Facilitator program in the Arab world.
