What the OPA PAC is fighting for now

Ohio Pharmacists Association:  PHARMACY Political Action Committee

100% of all contributions are spent to assist candidates and legislators who support pharmacy in Ohio.

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Implementation of Ohio Medicaid’s Single PBM
  • HB 110 – OPA was successful in getting $50 million inserted into Ohio’s 2022-2023 budget bill to enhance Medicaid fees.
  • Consult Agreements – OPA expanded the consult agreement law to allow testing, ordering of lab tests, administering meds and further prescribing; now agreements can be made with clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, certified nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
  • HB 341 – This law allows pharmacists to administer long-acting injectables.
  • HB 6 – expanded the pharmacist’s role in administering COVID-19 tests and antibodies, and expands technician activities.
  • Defeated or modified legislation that would harm pharmacy

WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR NOW

The OPA Pharmacy PAC never stops working for you. Currently, we are working toward:

  • Work force issues -- creating safer work environments and improving patient safety
  • HB 80: Test and treat legislation that would allow pharmacists to test, evaluate, and treat COVID-19, influenza, and strep A pharyngitis
  • PBM reform legislation that will eliminate patient steering ("white bagging"), restrictions on mailing prescriptions, and standardize credentialing
  • Expand provider status payment to all pharmacists, not just those with consult agreements
  • Further implement provider status in private plans
  • Legislation to prohibit copay discounts from being taken from consumers
