Immunization Training and Updates

As of March 19, 2015 trained pharmacists and pharmacy interns in Ohio are permitted to administer all vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to patients seven years of age or older, based on requirements outlined in Ohio Revised Code 4729.41.  Pharmacists and pharmacy interns must be able to document that they meet the training criteria for each immunization that they will administer. Depending on the training that was completed, additional training may be required to administer all the vaccines in the recommended immunization schedules.

The Ohio Pharmacists Foundation (OPF) has a number of opportunities for pharmacists who may need or want additional training:

  • The next pharmacist immunization training program will be offered at the OPA office in 2018. This program is targeted to pharmacists in all practice settings who need training to administer immunizations, as well as pharmacists who have already been trained but may want a refresher course. This program will include all vaccines that pharmacists and pharmacy interns may administer in Ohio.
