AOA History Essay Winners Announced.

The AOA has announced the winners of the 2011 history essay competition:

  • First place in the 2011 competition went to Shawn Silver, OMS I, of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) in East Lansing. He received a $5,000 prize for an essay titled “Thanks, But No Thanks: How Denial of Osteopathic Service in World War I & II Shaped the Profession.”
  • The Bureau awarded the $3,000 second-place prize to Aula Saloum, OMS III, of MSUCOM’s Detroit Medical Center, for his essay, “Being Equal in the Eyes of the Government, But More in the Eyes of the People.”
  • Placing third and earning a $2,000 prize is Treasach F. Vargas, OMS IV, whose essay is titled “Osteopathic Medicine’s Historical and Future Role in Government Financed Healthcare.” Student Doctor Vargas is studying at the Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Co.
