Obituary for William "Bill" Charles Sujkowski
Former Owner of W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home
William ‘Bill’ Charles Sujkowski, 84, devoted Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his side. Bill was born on December 31, 1941 to Eugene Sr. and Alice (Sobieralski) Sujkowski. He grew up in the historic Polish Kuschwantz area of Toledo, at Nebraska and South Detroit Avenue. His childhood family home was located next to his family’s business. Bill shared many fond memories reminiscing the times he spent endless hours with neighborhood friends riding their bikes all around town, the terrific bakeries and local grocery stores, movie houses, and parks. Bill attended and graduated from St. Stanislaus Grade School, St. Francis de Sales High School in 1959, The University of Toledo, and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. After graduating college, Bill received his Funeral Director’s and Embalmer’s license, and started his life-long career, becoming a fourth generation director with his family at W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home. He was a member of the Northwest Ohio Funeral Directors Association and the Ohio Embalmers Association. Bill retired after 60 dedicated years, serving families in the community. He also worked with his daughters, who admired his work ethic and compassion. He was reserved, soft spoken, had a gentle guidance, and brought comfort and grace to countless families during difficult days. After a life dedicated to caring for others, we hope Bill leaves behind a legacy of comfort and dignity. Bill was a faithful and caring husband to his loving wife, Patricia (Skirvin). They met in Cincinnati, Ohio while Bill attended college and where Patti resided. Patti grew up in Loveland, Ohio and worked at Western-Southern Life Insurance when they met. They were engaged on Christmas Day in 1964, and married on August 28, 1965 at All Saints Catholic Church in Montgomery, Ohio. After their wedding, Patti moved to Toledo, and together they began their life adventure together. Bill worked full time and Patti attended and graduated from Toledo Beauty Academy, receiving her Cosmetology license. She worked as a beautician for LaSalle’s at Westgate until they welcomed their daughter, Jill, born on their wedding anniversary. They were blessed again with their daughter, Jennifer, two years later. They were wonderful parents, providing endless support and unconditional love. In their earlier years, Bill and Patti enjoyed weekend trips to visit family in Loveland, OH, weekend visits to their cottage on Sand Lake, going on summer vacations with daughters, and day-trip antiquing. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Hawaii and they carried on their love of cruising to different destinations with other family members. In later years, Bill and Patti found comfort and pleasure spending time with their grandsons, family and friends. Bill enjoyed the outdoors. He would frequent Swan Creek park for walks, tend to his yard and pool, or simply listen to music. Patti loved her flowers, garden, and yard decorations. Each year they created an inviting and beautiful outdoor realm for family and friends to gather. Together they created a beautiful home filled with countless memories. Patti was a talented decorator and hosted many holiday parties. She made a welcoming home, filled with comfort and warmth . Bill was an excellent cook, especially his weekend brunches and Polish chicken dinners. He was also a talented handyman and skilled woodworker. When relaxing, Patti enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends, listening to the oldies, or watching home and garden television. Bill was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Cleveland Guardians and Browns. He also enjoyed watching westerns and old classic movies. Bill and Patti truly shared a lifetime journey of strength and were an example of lifelong love. Every morning, they started with a kiss. When the day was done, they always kissed goodnight. Together in life, together again in Heaven. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife Patti of 59 years, on November 30, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene J. Sujkowski Jr; and brother-in-law, Robert Skirvin. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Jill and Jenni Sujkowski; grandsons, Jack and James Wenz; sister’s-in-law, Marcia Sujkowski and Nancy Skirvin; nephews and nieces, Brian (Wendy) Sujkowski, Mark Sujkowski, Kevin (Dawn) Sujkowski, Nick Skirvin; nieces, Amy (JT) Lewis and Sara (DJ) Reffit; and several extended family and numerous friends. A special thank you would like to be extended to his cousins, Hilary and Amy Sujkowski, for their compassionate care and support. In keeping with William and Patricia’s wishes, services will be private. They will be interred together at Calvary Cemetery. Your life was a blessing and your memories we will always cherish and treasure. Always in our hearts, we love you both forever.
