Is Social Media Working for You?

How can you tell if your website content
is being shared via social media sites?

I mentioned in my December 13th blog that we added a new feature to WebSuite2™ that automatically adds social media icons to the details view of every item (calendars, news, ads, job postings, etc.). This feature integrates with a free service provided by ShareThis.com.

What I did not mention was that you can receive a helpful weekly analysis report via email. The report, known as the Weekly Publisher Digest, shows the top items on your website that were shared via social media channels (or via email) over the prior week. It also provides summary totals that suggest the effectiveness of each social media channel.

How Does it Work?

Each time a visitor shares content using one of the social media icons, ShareThis.com records it. (This includes when someone uses the 'send email' sharing icon too.)  It aggregates this information over the week and then emails a summary report to you.

To receive this report, you need to set up a free ‘Publisher ID’ from ShareThis.com. (Here’s the link to do that.) You’ll be asked to provide an email address - and that’s where the report will be sent.

Once you’ve established your Publisher ID, contact us and we will plug it into the system settings in WebSuite2. Subsequently, WebSuite2 will customize the social media icons, so that ShareThis.com is able to track stats unique to your organization.  You’ll automatically begin receiving the Weekly Publisher Digest every Monday.

Using the information provided in this report, you can assess which social media channels are being utilized to get your message out.  This will help you focus your efforts and refine your social media marketing strategy.

Best of all it’s FREE!

What happens when a member tries to share
members-only content?

No worries. If a member has logged in and shares members-only content, the link that is shared still requires the visitor to login before accessing that content. That goes for any members-only content, including stored documents, such as PDFs. Just be sure you flag the 'Members Only' checkbox when adding private content.
