2012 begins our twenty-second year (!) in business. And I’d like to kick it off by offering a huge ‘thank you’ to all our friends/clients across the U.S.
I know that each of you are making a difference within your organizations, and that your organizations are helping hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
You might not feel like you’re changing the world, but I’d be willing to bet that you’re impacting your corner of it.

Just before the holiday break, my son Nicholas came home from school having watched the classic movie ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ I asked him what he thought of it and I could tell from his response that it had made a lasting impression on him.
When I asked what he thought the core message of the film was, he said ‘that one person makes a much bigger impact than they realize.’
What a true statement.

My sister-in-law recently suggested that I read a book entitled ‘The Fred Factor’. The book showcases the author’s postal carrier (named Fred) as an example of someone who takes an ordinary job and transforms it into one that has made a lasting impression on others. More importantly, it highlights how our simple daily actions can have a huge impact on others.

A perfect illustration of this principle is shown in the Liberty Mutual television commercials. They depict how one person's good deed can start a chain reaction of other good deeds:
As we embark on another new year, it’s energizing and motivating to think that what we do can and does have meaning and value.
I’m certain that you’re already making a difference for your members, your coworkers and your families.
Thank you again - for giving us to the opportunity to provide some of the tools that help you make that difference. Please let us know if there's anything more we can do to help too!

It's an excellent way to begin a new year! The thought reminds of a children's song, "Brighten the corner where you are!" It's the only place we can start.
