Caring for Creation: Inspire Your Members with Environmental Education and Actions

In this workshop we will discuss how to restore nature in your backyard, inspire congregation members with environmental education and actions at church, and Sustainable Worthington: A model for a community sustainability program.

Joann is chair of the Environmental Stewardship Team at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Columbus, a member of Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed and Sustainable Worthington.

 

Energy Stewards Initiative--More Green Going Green CANCELLED

The Southern Ohio Synod and three of our congregations are participating in a 2-year pilot of the Energy Stewards Initiative through Lutherans Restoring Creation. The workshop will demonstrate the benefits of this practical application of measuring a building’s energy use and tracking the changes while taking actions to reduce energy use.

Sara Ward, Spiritual Director for Trinity Lutheran and Bexley Hall Seminary, also serves as the Director of Ohio Interfaith Power and Light. She is a fellow in the 2012 Class of the GreenFaith Fellowship Program. She is also the chair of the Southern Ohio Synod Earthkeeping Task Force and the Green Team for First English Lutheran Church, Columbus.

 

Faith Based Community Gardening: Nutrition for the Body Mind and Soul

Presenters: Job Ebenezer & Pr. Joene Herr

This workshop will provide an overview of regional workshops under development by Southern Ohio Synod Earthkeeping & Hunger Task Forces. Attendees will be able to develop a plan for incorporating gardening their community, articulate the relationship between the garden and issues of hunger in the world and ways for using community gardens as an outreach component within their community.

Job Ebenezer is a member of the SOS Earthkeeping Task Force and has worked in several developing countries during the past 30 years with village technicians and communities teaching sustainable practices.

Pr. Joene Herr is as member of the SOS Hunger Task Force and was the SOS Pilot Synod coordinator for the ELCA Malaria Campaign.
