The Reverend George Neiman

The Rev. George Neiman, age 90, passed away on September 21, 2011 after an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio.

He attended the University of Toledo and was a graduate of Capital University in 1942 and the Lutheran Theological Seminary (now Trinity Lutheran Seminary) in 1945. After his ordination in September 1945, The Reverend Neiman served as pastor of two American Lutheran Church congregations—Zion Lutheran Church in Woodland, MI, for 11 years, helping celebrate their 100th Anniversary in 1956 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Youngstown for 33 years, helping celebrate their 100th Anniversary in 1981. Pr. Neiman served as a pastor for 66 years. He retired in 1990.

In retirement, he served as a volunteer chaplain for Riverside Methodist Hospital for 14 years, a supply/interim pastor for Lutheran congregations in Central and Southwest Ohio and pastoral associate to the Bishop of the Southern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and coordinator of the Retired Lutheran Pastors group in the Columbus area.

Pr. Neiman and his wife, Ellen were married for 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, three children and many grand and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service officiated by Bishop Callon W. Holloway, Jr. and The Rev. Steve Watchman will be held on September 29, 2011 at noon at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Upper Arlington. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Fish Cemetery in New Rochester at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the George and Ellen Neiman Scholarship Fund at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, 2199 East Main Street, Columbus, OH 43209, or to the organ fund for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Blvd, Columbus, OH 43212.
