CALL FOR PROPOSALS: LOCAL SITE COORDINATOR
RHETORIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Nominations are invited for candidates to serve as Local Site Coordinator/s for two biennial meetings of the Rhetoric Society of America.
Self-nominations are encouraged.
2ND BIENNIAL INSTITUTE, 2007
Kent State University hosted the 1st Biennial Institute in May 2005. The Institute included a week-long Seminar on the history of rhetoric, and a series of 2-1/2 day workshops on such topics as collective memory, rhetoric and pedagogy, social movements, and argumentation. The target enrollment audience for the Seminar was 20 graduate students and untenured faculty members, and most Workshops registered10-15 participants. The content and format of the 2007 Institute. which need not approximate the format of the Kent State event. will be planned by the Institute Steering Committee. The Committee will work closely with the Local Site Coordinator/s on logistics, including the establishment of dates for the Institute. RSA events traditionally take place in May.
Complete proposals should include:
- identification of the individual/s who will serve as primary contact/s with the Steering Committee;
- indication of the specific site/s that would accommodate 100-200 participants in plenary sessions and smaller break-out groups over several days;
- an explanation of the resources. faculty and student volunteers, institutional support, etc.. that would commend the prospective Local Site Coordinator/s as a strong partner for the Steering Committee.
13TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, 2008
The University of Texas, Austin, served as Local Site Coordinator for the11th Biennial Conference in May 2004, and the University of Memphis fulfills the same role for the 12th Biennial Conference, 26-29 May 2006. RSA President-Elect Jack Selzer will determine the Conference theme and dates for 2008, oversee development of the program, and work closely with the Local Site Coordinator/s on logistics. Proposed sites should have facilities to accommodate 500-700 participants, have space that ranges from small meeting rooms to ballrooms for plenary sessions and social events, and be available during the target dates. The Conference is usually held in May.
Complete proposals should include:
- indication of the specific site/s that would accommodate the space and availability,
- identification of the individual/s who will serve as primary contact/s with President-Elect Selzer, and
- an explanation of the resources. faculty and student volunteers, institutional support, etc.. that would commend the prospective Local Site Coordinator/s as a strong partner for RSA.
Proposals to serve as Local Site Coordinator for the Institute and/or the Conference should be
submitted electronically to David Henry, RSA Executive Director, by
October 15, 2005:
dhenry@ccmail.nevada.edu. The Site Selection Committee will review the proposals and make recommendations to the RSA Board of Directors during the Board's November meetings at the National Communication Association convention.
