Undergraduate degree/institution: Ohio State University, BSPS and minor in Agricultural Systems Management

Rotation Month at OPA:  October 2014

How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy?

In high school I performed well in math and science, and I knew that I wanted to pursue a degree in those subjects.  I also liked the idea of helping others, so the medical field seemed like a natural fit.  I was able to begin working in a pharmacy during my freshman year at Ohio State, and have enjoyed working in a wide variety of sites since then.

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation site?

I was able to take the Advocacy elective at Cincinnati, and was very impressed by my time spent at the Statehouse.  Seeing how the legislative process works firsthand was the main reason that I applied to the OPA rotation site.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA?

While I had an understanding of the legislative process at OPA, I had no idea just how many things with which they were involved.  I was very impressed after seeing the incredible amount of events hosted and the time involved with the production of the Ohio Pharmacist Journal, among the other daily activities of the association.

What other pharmacy associations/organizations do you belong to?

I was a member of APhA, OPA, OSHP, and Tribunal on Cincinnati’s campus.

Hobbies:

I enjoy anything outdoors, especially kayaking, hiking, and gardening.  My wife and I grew and sold produce at the local farmers market this year, and intend to continue doing that.
