OHSBCA Scholarships

OHSBCA Hank Miller Memorial Scholarship

Each year, the Board of Directors awards several Hank Miller Memorial Scholarships.

Hank Miller, a longtime coach and educator at Canton McKinley High School, was inducted into the OHSBCA Hall of Fame in 1975. He taught Industrial Arts and Vocational Carpentry for 39 years and retired from Canton City Schools in 1989. While he coached multiple sports—including tennis, golf, and basketball—his true passions were football and baseball.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Hank graduated from Canton Township High School (Canton South) in 1942 and earned his degree from Ohio Northern University. His coaching career included stops at Mogadore, Louisville, Canton Lincoln, Canton McKinley, and GlenOak. He also officiated basketball, served as recreational director in Louisville, and was President of the OHSBCA in 1982.

Hank is a member of both the Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame and the Ohio Northern University Athletic Hall of Fame. He also founded the Hank Miller High School Baseball Series.

In order to be eligible for the Hank Miller Memorial Scholarship, applicants must be:

  • A graduating son or daughter of a current or Lifetime OHSBCA member coach.

  • The coach must have held OHSBCA membership for at least 5 consecutive years, counting backward from the student’s graduation year.
