From museums to souvenir stands, the D.C. area is a particularly rich place to practice critical tourism. The diverse performances in this panel include performance of literature, personal narratives, critiques of public exhibits, and storytelling. All of the performances explore the interrelationship between mind and body as they simultaneously evoke the power of performance to illuminate these connections. Historically, Performance Studies has always been interested in the relationship of text (mind) and performance/staging (body). Through adaptations of literary texts, life experiences, and cultural artifacts, power is embodied in aesthetic forms of communication.

Please let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you all in Arlington!
