RSA 2015 Summer Institute - University of Wisconsin-Madison

The 2015 RSA Summer Institute will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The University has a thriving intellectual culture where the study of rhetoric has long flourished. The current make-up of our rhetoric programs includes:

  • eight faculty in the Department of Communication Arts
  • seven faculty and affiliates in the Department of English,
  • and more than sixty graduate students across the two departments

The campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is set along the shores of Lake Mendota, and it provides a beautiful setting in early summer, one of the loveliest times of the year in Wisconsin.   The Summer Institute will be held at two locations on the campus – the Pyle Center and the Lowell Center – located just a few short steps from the Wisconsin Memorial Union. The Union Terrace, overlooking the lake, is a wonderful place to relax with a beer (or other adult beverage) and a bratwurst and continue the conversations from your workshops and seminars.

The UW-Madison campus is adjacent to the city’s downtown and State Street, featuring an array of restaurants, museums, clubs, and parks.  Madison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport, offering non-stop flights to and from many Midwestern and Eastern cities, and is only a ten-minute cab or bus ride to the UW campus. When you arrive in Madison, we’ve also secured blocks of rooms at several nearby hotels – a full list will be available in a couple of months – and none of them is more than a few minutes’ walk to the Institute’s workshops and seminars. And with a host of social events – including a plenary lunch at the beautiful new Union South – there will be something for everyone at the 2015 RSA Summer Institute.
