CALL FOR PROPOSALS: LOCAL SITE COORDINATOR/S
SIXTH BIENNIAL INSTITUTE, 2015
CALL FOR PROPOSALS: LOCAL SITE COORDINATOR/S
RHETORIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA
SIXTH BIENNIAL INSTITUTE, 2015
The Rhetoric Society of America seeks nominations and self-nominations to serve as Local Site Coordinator/s for the Sixth Biennial Institute, to occur in the summer of 2015.
Kent State University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Penn State University and the University of Colorado in Boulder hosted the 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011 Institutes, respectively, and the 2013 Institute will be held at the University of Kansas.
The content and format of the 2015 Institute will be planned by the Institute Steering Committee which will be appointed by the RSA Board. The Steering Committee will work closely with the Local Site Coordinator/s on logistics, including the establishment of dates for the Institute. By mutual agreement, the Local Site Coordinator may also play a major role in the composition and direction of the Institute program.
Proposals should include [1] identification of the individual/s who will serve as primary contact/s with the Steering Committee; [2] indication of the specific site/s that would accommodate up to 500 participants in plenary sessions and smaller break-out groups for a week’s duration; [3] an explanation of the resources—institutional support, other subventions, faculty and student volunteers, etc.—that would commend the prospective Local Site Coordinator/s as a strong partner for the Steering Committee.
Strong proposals will project significant participation in planning and supporting the event from rhetorical studies scholars working in both English and Communication, and will include both a detailed description of meeting spaces and lodging resources that will be available and sufficient preliminary budget information to demonstrate that the event is likely to raise $7500 for the RSA operating budget beyond event expenses.
Proposals should be submitted electronically to Gregory Clark, RSA Executive Director, by September 1, 2011: gregory_clark@byu.edu. The Site Selection Committee will review proposals and make recommendations to the RSA Board of Directors during the Board’s Fall 2011 meeting. Direct any questions to Gregory Clark at gregory_clark@byu.edu.
