Kenney Withers

Kenney Withers, former director of Southern Illinois University Press, died November 28 in St. Augustine Beach, Florida.  He had just turned eighty-three.

Kenney spent over twenty-five years with various manifestations of Holt, starting as a college traveler and ending as publisher of their College Division.  He was director of SIU Press from 1980 to 1992 and turned his personal interests in architecture, theater, communications, and composition studies into some of the strongest lists in those areas of any press.  

A native of Florida, Kenney retired there in 1992 but continued his contribution to literacy and literary culture by serving for many years on the St. Johns County Library Board of Directors.
