RSA Announces Dues Schedule for 2011
RSA ANNOUNCES DUES SCHEDULE FOR 2011
The RSA Board of Directors has announced a new dues schedule effective January 1, 2011.
This is the first dues increase since 2003. In the ensuing eight years, RSA has more than doubled its membership and has developed several new services and opportunities. We have launched the successful RSA Institute, engaged the services of a professional membership manager and webmaster, achieved membership in the American Council of Learned Societies, begun a mentoring program for associate professors, and professionalized the production and marketing of our journal – to name only the most obvious advances. This expansion of programs and services has been funded primarily through the unexpected growth in our conference. While we do not want arbitrarily to cap the conference size, neither should we make ourselves dependent on its perpetual growth.
We also are planning more initiatives in the years ahead. We are expanding RSQ to five issues per year, with one a "themed" issue. You should receive the first themed issue very soon. We also are working to enhance RSA's electronic presence. We are launching a program of matching grants and competitive special project grants for student chapters. More seminars will be offered at the Institute and we are considering additional steps to make it even more "intergenerational." We are working to form stronger connections with rhetoric scholars outside the United States. We are investigating the feasibility of cosponsoring a book series with a university press. And there undoubtedly will be more good ideas.
While keeping RSA on a strong financial footing and supporting new undertakings, the Board also is adopting the practice of several other organizations in relating dues, in part, to members' income. Effective January 1, 2011, RSA dues will be as follows:
Regular member (annual income under $100,000) |
$90 for one year |
|
$160 for two years |
Sustaining member (annual income $100,000 and over) |
$120 for one year |
|
$220 for two years |
Student member |
$50 for one year |
|
$90 for two years |
Lifetime Membership (may be paid over up to 5 years) |
$2000 |
Enhanced Lifetime Membership (may be paid over up to 5 years) |
$3000 |
International |
$100 |
Institutional/Departmental |
$200 |
RSA is vibrant and growing. It is an academic and professional home for all scholars of rhetoric. I hope you will agree that even with the new dues levels – the first increase in eight years, as noted above – the value of your membership remains well worth its cost. The Board of Directors and I thank you for your support and look forward to your continued membership and participation.
