How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy? I initially learned about the profession of pharmacy from my high school chemistry teacher.  During my sophomore year in high school she discussed various science-based careers and mentioned pharmacy as a great option for students who enjoyed chemistry.  I then shadowed several pharmacists and enjoyed the time I spent with them in both community and hospital pharmacy settings.  During the summer before my senior year of high school, I attended the University of Toledo’s Pharmacy Camp and subsequently made the decision to attend pharmacy school.

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation? I chose OPA as a rotation site because of the positive experiences I had through my involvement in APhA and APhA-ASP during pharmacy school.  As I was deciding what elective APPE rotations I wanted, I realized that I didn’t have much exposure to pharmacy organizations on a state level.  I felt that spending a month at OPA would be the perfect way to immerse myself in Ohio pharmacy issues and learn about opportunities for me to be involved as a pharmacist in the years to come.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA? The most significant experience for me was attending the Pre-Conference meeting at the Columbus Convention Center.  It was an incredibly exciting and eye opening experience to see everyone involved in the meeting planning come together and discuss the final details of the Conference plans.  I was surprised by the amount of checking and rechecking that occurs with every detail of the Conference.  It was very rewarding to have worked on so many these details during my time at OPA.  Attending the Pre-Conference meeting showed me just how much my hard work, and the hard work of so many others, would come together in making the OPA Annual Conference a great experience for pharmacists and students from across Ohio.

What other pharmacy associations/organizations do you belong to? APhA, ASHP, OSHP, Phi Lambda Sigma, Rho Chi
