March 2011 OPA Extern Profile: Veronica Ciaccia
Name: Veronica Ciaccia
Pharmacy School: The University of Findlay
Rotation Month at OPA: March, 2011
How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy?
In high school, working at a retail pharmacy helped determine the route for which I wanted to strive. I really learned to love the profession through interacting with patients, and realized the wealth of knowledge that was required. The noticeable level of respect given to pharmacists is well deserved and is something I wanted to achieve. Deciding to enter into this great field is one of the best decisions I ever made. I am looking forward to beginning my career as a pharmacist.
Why did you choose OPA as a rotation site?
I have received great feedback from past students who have had OPA as a rotation site. More importantly, I was really looking for electives in fields of interest where I was not likely to get experience after graduation.
What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA?
I was most surprised on how much I learned. The experience gained was in an area I would not be exposed to after graduation and was a rotation that you cannot benefit enough from just hearing about it. I believe this was a diverse, unique, and an unfamiliar choice for an elective in which I do not regret in the least choosing. As I look back, I took many valuable lessons from my month with the OPA. I had a revival of interest and attention to the importance of associations and their impact on my career. It was nice to be in the direct presence of organizations and individuals that have the pharmacist, patient, and the practice of pharmacy best interest at heart.
