Conducted twice per month, the BWC offers free Webinars that last approximately 20 minutes. The topics of these informational webinars change monthly. You can also view past recorded webinars. Register for upcoming BWC webinars here.

2-Hour Safety Training Requirement

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) requires employers who had a claim in the “green year” to complete two hours of mandatory safety training. This means companies that are 2018 group/group retrospective-rated participants with an injury claim filed between the dates of July 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017 must attend safety training, regardless of the size or severity of the claim. Per BWC guidelines, each company is required to fulfill the two-hour training requirement and may designate any company representative to attend.

To assist you in meeting Ohio BWC’s requirement, CareWorksComp offers Two-Hour Safety Training sessions:

  • March 13, 2019 – Bowling Green
  • June 18, 2019 – Dublin
  • Spring Seminar dates and times TBD and typically held in the following locations:
    • Cleveland
    • Columbus
    • Cincinnati

We also now offer a video option of our annual Risk Management and Cost Control Seminars. Purchasing and viewing the video recording will also complete the Two-Hour Safety Training Requirement.  The Risk Management and Cost Control Seminars registration form, including the video option, will be sent out in 2019 to all our clients.

For more information on the 2-hour safety training sessions we currently have available or to get registered, please contact Dana Carmichael by email at or by phone 614.956.2304.

During tax season, we have lowered our service fee for the Claims and Tax Management Service. To learn more and receive help with your tax analysis, please contact Kammy Staton, our Unemployment Manager, at 614.526.7165 or

Don’t wait to call! Tax appeals must be filed by December 21, 2018.

OSHA Launches Program to Target High Injury and Illness Rates

OSHA is initiating the Site-Specific Targeting Program to target workplaces with high injury rates for inspection. Using injury and illness information electronically submitted by employers for calendar year 2016, OSHA will inspect establishments that should have provided 300A data, but did not. This program helps OSHA ensure that employers provide safe and healthful workplaces by directing enforcement resources to those workplaces with the highest rates of injuries and illnesses.
