Money Still Available for the SFM/BWC Volunteer Firefighter I Training Grant

I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that there is still money available for the State Fire Marshal/Bureau of Worker’s Compensation Volunteer Firefighter I Training Grant. Anyone or any department interested is encouraged to apply right away. It is the goal of our office, in partnering with the Ohio BWC, to ease the costs to local governments, promote shared services and broaden the availability of these courses throughout the state. This grant is one example of that effort.

For more information on the SFM/BWC Volunteer Firefighter I Training Grant, as well as other grants available through the Division of State Fire Marshal, visit www.com.ohio.gov/fire/grants.

The application for this grant is available at www.com.ohio.gov/documents/fire_VolunteerFFIgrant.pdf, and questions regarding this and other SFM grant programs can be directed to Kimberly Hodnett at kimberly.hodnett@com.ohio.gov or (614) 752-7122.

Likewise, The Ohio Development Services Agency can help enhance public safety in your Ohio community. The Local Government Safety Capital Grant Program provides money that can be used for vehicles, equipment, facilities or systems for police, fire or emergency medical services needed to enhance public safety.

Ohio political subdivisions can apply. An eligible project can request a grant amount up to $100,000. Political subdivisions working together to consolidate service or enhance cooperation to more efficiently deliver emergency services can also apply. Joint applicants may be eligible for up to $500,000.

“Collaboration is key when it comes to saving money,” said David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency. “Through the process of sharing services and eliminating duplication, communities have seen direct savings.”

Final determination is made by the Local Government Innovation Council, which oversees programs to promote shared services and local government efficiency.

Applications for the Local Government Safety Capital Grant Program will be accepted February 16, 2016.

Thank you, and stay safe.
