Firefighter - Part Time

General:
Jackson Township is recruiting to fill positions for part-time Firefighter/Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMT-P). A part-time Firefighter/EMT-P engages directly in fire prevention and fire-fighting activities to protect and safeguard lives and property; responds to emergency calls for EMT services; assists the Fire Inspector/Paramedic and Firefighter/Paramedic; assists in maintenance and repair of fire and emergency medical service stations and equipment; and other appropriate duties as assigned by or through the Fire Chief. Under general supervision, performs emergency medical and general firefighting duties; maintains fire department facilities and equipment; participates in training programs and exercises as directed.
Qualifications:
To apply for this job, you must possess a State of Ohio Firefighter 2 certification, State of Ohio EMT-Paramedic certification, high school diploma or GED and a valid Ohio Driver’s license.
Job duties include:
• Respond to calls for emergency medical services, treating injuries and illnesses as appropriate; stabilizing patients for transport; transporting patients; assisting paramedics as required; and assure appropriate liaison with medical facility staff.
• Respond to fire alarm calls; assess fire ground situations; utilizing team firefighting principals and techniques, suppress and control fires, perform rescues as necessary and salvage property.
• Ascend and descend ladders; work at extreme heights; lift heavy objects (75 lbs. Plus); drag fire hoses; lift and carry victims; work in a variety of hazardous situations and confined spaces, burning surfaces, etc. Utilize self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. React and attend to audible and visual warning signals. Prepare documentation, reports, and presentations as required.
• Participate in Fire and EMS drills and training to assure currency of skills.
• Operate fire trucks, hoses, ladders, ropes, harnesses, axes, and other equipment required to perform the functions of fire suppression and emergency medical services.
Effective oral and written communication and language skills; physical strength and agility necessary to perform job functions; knowledge of firefighting principals and methods and the behavioral characteristics of fire; high school diploma or GED; State of Ohio Certification as a Firefighter 2 and Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMT-P); contemporary computer skills, including word processing, data entry and e-mail. Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
