The City of Urbana, Ohio, a progressive and family-oriented community, is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. Urbana offers small town charm with a high-quality of life including entertainment, the arts, and numerous popular annual events. The Urbana Fire Division is a career department with 23 personnel and provides services with a strong customer service focus to a community of 19,400 residents in 86 square miles, which includes Urbana, Salem and Concord Townships.
The Fire Chief is a member of the City’s Management Team and reports directly to the Director of Administration. This highly visible position requires exceptional character and integrity, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to foster a strong team environment. Successful applicants will have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including suppression, EMS, prevention and inspection; and possess astute financial planning and management skills.
Applicants should have a proven record of leadership with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible full-time fire service experience, with three or more years of permanent assignment as a command officer (shift officer or above). Applicants must possess the following Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B, Fire Safety Inspector, and a valid Ohio Operator’s License. An associate degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired. A bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred. Completion of an executive development program such as the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) or the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) is highly preferred. The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
The salary range for this position is $70,594- $91,959, DOQ, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
