Full Time 9 Month EMS Instructor/Program Director

Central Ohio Technical College is accepting online applications for a full-time 9-month EMS Instructor/Program Director at Pataskala.

Summary of Duties:
A full-time Emergency Medical Services Instructor is a member of the College’s Emergency Medical Services Department, which is housed in the Institute for Public Service & Safety. This faculty member teaches a range of introductory courses, as well as advanced courses in specific program technology areas. Teach courses in Emergency Medical Services, including CPR, First Aid, EMT-Basic, EMS Intermediate, and Paramedic, and possibly courses in related fields of study. Assist with curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and evaluation. Participate in the long-range planning and ongoing development of the program. Assist with program review and development. Prepare, present, and evaluate course materials based on performance objectives. When necessary, assist part-time departmental faculty with course development and delivery. Oversee the work of clinical instructors and others to whom the work of the program is delegated. Work collaboratively with the medical director, departmental and divisional faculty, and faculty from other areas. When necessary, work collaboratively with personnel from secondary and post-secondary institutions on matters pertaining to common or articulated coursework and assessments. Establish and maintain a positive, supportive learning environment for a diverse student population whose learning styles and educational experiences vary. Meet with and advise students on matters pertaining to proper course selection, academic concerns, and certificate and degree requirements. Refer students to appropriate resources and/or support services, and support college student service programs. Participate in campus, faculty, professional, and community organizations and activities. Classroom and clinical instruction in the EMS program as well as assuring program accreditation standards are being met, student recruitment, education standards, and effective operational management for the EMS Degree and certificate programs. The faculty member is responsible for providing professional, quality work as a teaching faculty member. Work includes facilitating student learning by using active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course; assessing student learning; and providing academic assistance to students as needed.

Qualifications: Current national registry and State of Ohio certification at the paramedic level with appropriate instructor certifications. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a field related to public health or safety. Demonstrated experience in the delivery of pre-hospital emergency care. Demonstrated experience implementing current national curricula and applying standards of national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure. Demonstrated commitment to being and remaining current in the field. Demonstrated experience in or commitment to innovative teaching strategies. Experience in teaching, or a willingness to teach, in a variety of instructional delivery modes, including the use of instructional technologies and online learning management systems. Effective oral and written communication skills and effective organizational skills. Ability to work well with others. Personal and educational philosophy compatible with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Demonstrated commitment to meeting students’ learning needs and empowering students in their learning endeavors.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred but not required: master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a field related to public health or safety; experience teaching at a two-year college; and demonstrated experience with the delivery of fire department based EMS duties.
