Civil Service entrance test announcement for the position of Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic.  

The City of Mansfield and the Mansfield Civil Service Commission thank you for your interest in employment with our safety forces. To take the fire civil service examinations, you must complete and submit applications to:

All documentation required to receive additional credit (military, college, certification and residency extra credit - see attached) must be submitted with your completed application to the Human Resources Office by the application deadline. THE $20 NON-REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEE FOR EACH EXAM MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION AND EXTRA CREDIT DOCUMENTATION BY 4:00 P.M. May 28th, 2019.

Salary Information:
• Probationary Firefighters start at $45,837
• At 1 Year increases to $47,920
• At 2 Years increases to $50,107
• At 3 Years increases to $52,404
• At 4 Years increases to $54,815
• At 5 Years increases to $59,775

Department Overview:
We are staffed with 92 full time Firefighters, and Paramedics. Our responding staff is divided into three shifts, each working a 24-hour day. We serve a community of 46,000 plus citizens, within a 30 square mile area. Fire Station 1, 2, and 3 house a Fire Engine and Rescue Squad, each staffed with two members. Fire Station 4 houses an Aerial Ladder Truck, and when staffing allows, a Rescue Squad. Station 6 houses a 3-member Fire Engine. Our fire engines are equipped with a hydraulic spreader and cutting tools for vehicle extrication. They are equipped with defibrillators, and advanced life support supplies.

Qualifications:
Be a U.S. Citizen between the ages of 18 and 31 on the date of the exam. Possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent Possess a valid driver’s license

Assessments:
• Written Civil Service exam
• Oral interview
• Physical agility test
• Medical exam & drug test
• Polygraph exam/CVSA
• Psychological exam
• Background check

Extra Credit:
• Military Credit: 20%
• College Credit-Associate’s: 5%
• College Credit-Bachelor’s: 10%
• Residency: 10% (Resident of City of Mansfield or attended a Richland County, Ohio High School)
• Ohio EMT– Basic: 5%
• Ohio EMT– Paramedic: 10%
• Ohio Firefighter II: 10% (Credit is calculated as percentage of a passing grade and cannot exceed 20% cumulatively)
