Youth & Family Ministry E-bulletin November 15, 2011
This Edition: 13 new/updated items and then some reminders.
1. Second Annual Renew Retreat: Another Winner!
What a blessing we received from Lutheran Memorial Camp as they offered once again a "free" 48 hour renew experience for our congregational youth staff. 21 were in attendance as we relaxed, shared resources, and cultivated friendships. Much is gained when we spend time with folks of like mission and vision. Thank you Rod, Claire, Penny, and Sharon!

November 5-7, 2012
2. Wanted: Lutheran Youth Organization Board Members (LYO).
We are taking nominations for the LYO Board. There are both one year and two year positions up for election this year. If you know of a young person from an ELCA Southern Ohio Synod congregation who you think would be a good board member contact Gary (gpecuch@southernohiosynod.org) for more information.
Election to take place on Saturday January 21, 2012 at the LYO Retreat at Camp Kern Oregonia, Ohio. You need not attend the LYO retreat to run for office nor do you need to be present at the time of the election.
This is a great opportunity to develop some leadership skills in a warm friendly, nurturing environment.
3. LYO Retreat Update
The LYO Retreat is looking good. With a few tweaks for this year we are expecting this to be another super event. Contact Gary for details (gpecuch@southernohiosynod.org).
4. Annual Jacobs Porch Overnighter
Sunday January 15 (7pm) to Monday January 16 (noon).

5. Gathering Numbers. As of Monday November 14th 29,000 have registered for the Gathering...619 from the Southern Ohio Synod.
6. Southern Ohio Synod National Youth Gathering T-shirt.
Designs will be accepted for a Southern Ohio Synod National Youth Gathering t-shirt through January 31, 2012. The current Lutheran Youth Organization Board will make the design selection. To create your design go to "customink.com". Consider including in your design the following:
a. The term "ELCA 2012 National Youth Gathering". In 2009, the term and Gathering Logo were on the front of the shirt.
b. The dates and the year (July 18-22, 2012). In 2009, the dates/year were printed on the back of the shirt along with "New Orleans, LA."
c. The term "Southern Ohio Synod". In 2009, that was on the back of the shirt.
d. The cost of the shirt should stay below $15. As you design the shirt the website will calculate the price of the shirt. For purposes of pricing plug in 120 shirts (20 of each S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL).
e. Then email your design link to Gary at gpecuch@southernohiosynod.org.
In early February the designs will be reviewed by the LYO Board for selection.
7. Ready to order Gathering T-shirts?
Details for ordering t-shirts will become available December 1st. Expect the price to be about $15. Feel free to start collecting sizes.
8. National Youth Gathering Travel
There are several busses heading to the Gathering from the Southern Ohio Synod. Some busses are not yet full. Contact Jen Jarman (Gathering Coordinator) to get connected with bus spots jjarman@goodshepherd.com or call her at Good Shepherd, Cincinnati (513-891-1700).
9. Resources you can use
Website: www.textweek.com Great Site! Runs concurrent with the lectionary series. It gives great ideas and further reading material about the scripture readings for the day. From Bryan Jaster Peace, Beavercreek.
Book: Sticky Faith: creating life-long faith in your kids. by Clark & Powell. 52 interactive messages (3 to 5 minutes in length) for adults and youth. Can be used in worship or anytime. Comes with CD Rom that provides bulletin inserts and take home devotion for parents to use anywhere. Bryan Jaster Peace, Beavercreek.

ELCA Youth Ministry Network Extravaganza
Are you an adult heading to New Orleans in July? If so, consider going to the ELCA Youth Ministry Network Extravaganza in February 2012. The Extravaganza will be held in New Orleans this year. It will be a great opportunity to find your way around town before our Big Blitz in July.

Can You Say Martin's List?
Yes, the ELCA youth ministry network has launched a Martin's List. A place to share our work with each other. Although a fairly new site, Martin's List already has plenty of good stuff to glean from. Please note that one must become a member of the ELCA Youth Ministry Network to gain access to the site. There are various membership levels ($35, $70, $125, $175) per year. It is worth the membership fee. www.elcaymnet.org

Hard Copy Mailings
Gary includes a summary of what's happening in the Synod in youth & family ministry in the Synod monthly congregational mailing. Look for the florescent green flier that is included in the mailing. It arrives on or about the 1st of each month. The information is basically the same as what's in the youth & family e-bulletin but can be easily posted around your church building.
