Children at All Shepherds in Lewis Center Receive Letter of Gratitude from Central States Synod re Gift to Rebuild After Joplin Tornados
The following letter was sent to the children of All Shepherds Lutheran Church in Lewis Center, Ohio for their generous gift of $500 and hand-drawn poster sent to the Central States Synod in response to the EF5 tornado that destroyed the city of Joplin, Missouri.
Malaria Campaign Update: Lives Are Being Saved, but Much Work is Still Needed
Since early 2010, the Southern Ohio Synod has been a pilot synod in a malaria fighting ministry, which one year ago became the ELCA Malaria Campaign.

Registration for The ELCA’s 2012 Youth Gathering Open
Online registration opened October 9, 2011 for the 2012 Youth Gathering of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The gathering will be July 18-22 in New Orleans with the theme of “Citizens with the Saints.”
Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Lutheran African Peace Activist
Leymah Roberta Gbowee, a Lutheran Liberian peace activist, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The announcement came October 7, 2011 from Oslo, Norway. Gbowee, a member of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, is responsible for organizing a non-violent women's movement that brought an end to a 14-year civil war in Liberia.
ELCA Presiding Bishop Says Building Trust is Key Work of This Church
The task before leaders of this church is to build communities of trust among people of faith, said the Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). He said ELCA members and leaders have a unique opportunity to make this their evangelical witness in a world that continues to be "a breeding ground" for suspicion and distrust.
