The Rev. James R. Baldwin

The Rev. James R. Baldwin, 94, of Marysville, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Heartland of Marysville. He was Pastor Emeritus of First English Lutheran Church where he served from 1971 to 1985. Most recently, he served the church as a confirmation mentor and helped with Vacation Bible School. He received a divinity degree from Hamma Divinity School at Wittenberg University in 1940.

Throughout his ministry, he also served at various churches in New Carlisle, Franklin, Toledo, Oxford and Worthington. He served as chaplain of Miami University during the late 1950s/early 1960s. He was instrumental in the establishment of U-Co Industries and worked closely through the years with the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities. As a board member of Marysville Housing Inc., he helped institute senior housing throughout the Windsor Manor area and was involved heavily in implementing senior citizen programs and activities, including the Senior Outreach Service Program. He was actively involved with the foundation of the Union County YMCA , the All-Ohio Balloon Rally, the Marysville Area Ministerial Association and was an ambassador and volunteer for the Marysville Area Chamber of Commerce. He was inducted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1991. He was a former director of Marysville Newspapers Inc. He was a voracious reader and donated many of his books to the Marysville Public Library.

Pr. Baldwin was preceeded in death by his wife Carolyn I. Baldwin.  He is survived by two sons, R. Thomas Baldwin and C. David Baldwin. 

Funeral services were held June 5, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
