Manager of Grassroots Advocacy
Strategic Health Care
On behalf of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Advocacy Committee (ASCAC), Strategic Health Care seeks a Manager of Grassroots Advocacy to join the organization’s government affairs team to help increase awareness of policy issues affecting ASCs and encourage people to become activists on these issues.
The Grassroots Manager plays a critical role in developing strong advocate networks to enhance the legislative and regulatory advocacy agenda. Working with leaders of state associations and ASC management companies, this person creates and implements grassroots advocacy campaigns, focusing significant efforts on cataloging existing and building new relationships in an online database, and mobilizing contacts to support federal priorities.
The Grassroots Manager develops content for the advocacy section of a new campaign website and will assist in the production of e-communications vehicles. This position both creates compelling content for use in grassroots campaigns (action alerts, letters to the editor, etc) and manages the tracking of email messaging and recruitment efforts to determine effectiveness.
This position will report to the Executive Director of the ASC Advocacy Committee and will be an employee of Strategic Health Care in either Columbus, OH or Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
- Develop, execute and manage the grassroots campaign plan
- Continuously seek ways to build community to connect grassroots leaders, local associations, and others to maximize engagement over time
- Build and maintain robust online and offline campaigns for advocates to engage and to maintain connection with ASCAC priorities
- Serve as project manager for the grassroots campaign process working with all stakeholders to manage timelines and deliverables
- Report on metrics for measuring the success of the movement
- Craft and write email campaigns to motivate people to action
- Coordinate communication and involvement with public relations and advocacy teams to have integrated campaigns that support organizational strategic objectives
- Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all colleagues
Skills & Qualifications
- A minimum of eight years of public affairs or political campaign management experience, including a strong track record in online organizing.
- Exceptional relationship building skills, with an ability to establish rapport and credibility quickly
- Sophisticated understanding of politics and/or demonstrated campaign experience at the regional or national level.
- Sharp political instincts and political communication skills
- Knowledge or experience with ASC and/or other health issues
- Proven track record of successfully engaging diverse constituencies in issues and action over time
- Innovative thinking with an ability to translate visionary ideas into executable strategies
- Message savvy, with an ability to create compelling online and offline communications that inspire people to act
- Proven project management skills with an ability to develop and execute comprehensive work plans
- Ability to coordinate activities and communications, prioritizing those with the highest potential impact
- Excellent writing skills and an ability to quickly absorb and analyze information and to simplify complex issues for various audiences
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort working with technology providers and experience using content management systems and CRM tools
- Experience using online tools for issue advocacy or candidate campaigning to produce electronic communications that result in specific actions
- Experience or interest in using Web 2.0 tactics to promote advocacy engagement
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; understanding of content management systems helpful
