Dr. Cheri Olson, an SCA survivor and family physician, chairs the Seven Rivers Chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association that covers Western Wisconsin, Southeastern Minnesota, and Northeastern Iowa. Their mission is to educate the public on the importance of early defibrillation and access to AEDs. They want to support SCA survivors and their families and advocate for community access to AEDs.

Sheriff Dept. Receives 7 More AEDs for Squad Cars
The LaCrosse SCAA presented Bystander CPR at opening night of the LaCrosse logger baseball game on June 2nd.
We dramatized a cardiac arrest by the Loggers Mascots, Louie the Logger and Logger dog.
Bob Milisch narrated while CPR wa demonstrated and we held up large cards reading "911" and "AED".
We also had a had a booth near the ticket gate where we demonstrated and offered hands on CPR and AED use on mannequins.
The demonstration was well received by over 2000 fans just prior to the season opener.
Group aims to arm every deputy with a defibrillator
La Crosse County Deputy Daren Schieldt could use an automated external defibrillator, as he often is first to arrive at an emergency call.
But Schieldt, a deputy for nine years, doesn’t have an AED in his squad car — only three squads do, he explained, all on second shift when they are most needed.
“Just the other day a code (heart failure) was in progress in the morning and no squad cars had AEDs,” he said. “I was close by to the call in a rural area, and first responders were 10 to 15 minutes away. Fortunately, everything worked out OK.
Group trying to raise $25,000 for 25 AEDs for sheriff department
A La Crosse-based organization is trying to raise thousands of dollars to get an AED in every La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department squad car and patrol boat. Seven Rivers Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association organizers hope the AEDs will help the make the community safer.
Slide Into Safety
Over 500 3rd graders from local schools participated in a field day trip recently. They learned about boater safety, bike safety, seat belt safety, CPR and the use of the AED, and what to do if someone is choking.
Tri State Ambulance and SCAA's Seven Rivers Chapter Save lives through their free AED loaner program.
Tri State Ambulance in conjuction with SCAA's Seven Rivers Chapter will allow adults 18 an older to check out an AED for business or community events for free. The borrowers will have to first view a short tutorial on how to safely operate the equipment and receive hands on training from a paramedic.

Desoto Basketball Team Uses Practice Time to Sharpen Skills
The Desoto girsl basketball team used practice time to learn CPR rather than practice more drills. The team coach recently collapsed from congestive heart failure. The team decided to learn CPR so that they can help one another and their coach if needed.

Oktoberfest To Get a Defibrillator
Days after a man went into sudden cardiac arrest at the Maple Leaf Parade and was saved by an automated external defibrillator, Oktoberfest officials are getting the machine to keep on-hand.
The AED was donated through the 95.7 The Rock's Rock Foundation and was bought through the 7-Rivers Chapter of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association.
