Mother saves toddler through CPR after near-drowning

A 9-month-old boy is in the hospital after nearly drowning in a backyard pool.

It happened just before 2 p.m. Thursday. Drexel Heights Fire District responded to a water incident call in the area of 6300 W. Copper Leaf, near Ajo and Camino Verde.

They say the boy's mother called 911 after he was found struggling in their two-foot-tall, plastic above-ground pool, just outside the back patio door.

Paramedics say the mother did CPR on her baby as she had blue lips and was unresponsive. When firefighters arrived, the boy was conscious and crying. Paramedics transported him to University of Arizona Medical Center.

Firefighters say this makesthe ninth water incident in Pima County for 2013.
