Boy rescued from swimming mishap in Santa Cruz

A boy who nearly drowned during a swim team practice at Simpkins Family Swim Center on Tuesday evening was revived by CPR and was released from a hospital that night, authorities said.

An off-duty nurse who assisted lifeguards with CPR said that the boy was found not breathing underwater and that he turned blue during the rescue.

"He had no pulse and no oxygen," said Francesca Singh, 26. "It was pretty intense."
