A man was resuscitated Saturday afternoon after falling into the water near Petrie Island.

Ottawa firefighters were called to Petri Island just after 3 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a man falling into the water. When they arrived on scene, two bystanders were already performing CPR on the man on the shoreline.

Firefighters continued CPR while loading the man into a rescue basket to lift him over the embankment. By the time he was brought to the road, he had regained a pulse and started breathing.

According to witnesses, the man was fishing when he fell in. Bystanders who were also fishing managed to pull him out using a branch.
