Caltrans Worker Meets Baby He Saved with CPR

For reasons he still can’t explain, Caltrans worker Joe Thomas bypassed his usual route back to the maintenance yard Monday. The detour ended up saving a baby’s life, bringing a routine workday to an extraordinary finish.

Thomas said his training just kicked in when he pulled over on state Route 54 in Chula Vista and began CPR on 13-month-old Cesar Ortiz.
