Amish sign on to English life-saving technology
Reported by: Jenni Joyce
Some members of the Amish community are learning how to save lives with technology called an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED. It's part of the nation's first community response team (CRT), organized by the Manheim Township Ambulance Association. The pilot program is focusing its efforts in Paradise Township, Lancaster County.
"Paradise Township's response time is almost 11 minutes. How do we get that down to something more manageable to save lives?" asks organizer, James Weber of the Manheim Township Ambulance Association.
Weber decided to launch a CRT in areas with less access to emergency responders, like, Paradise Township.
