Police officer knows defibrillators are a life-saver

By Harrison Haas, The Citizen of Laconia

Officer Daniel O'Neill, a six-year veteran of the Gilford Police Department, knows what it is like to make a life-and-death decision.

On the evening of June 28, O'Neill was doing paperwork in the basement of the Gilford Police Station when he received the call that someone on the other side of town had a serious medical problem. While finishing up a report that Monday, O'Neill was dispatched to the Keith residence for a man who was unresponsive and not breathing. Arriving at the house, he got the first aid kit along with the automatic electronic defibrillator out of the car's truck.
