Garry Frankel of Winnipeg was in the Twin Cities last year to volunteer for the USA Cup youth soccer tournament. While he was sleeping, he went into cardiac arrest.
His wife called the hotel's front desk and the staff then called 911. Frankel and his wife credit the hotel security staff that was trained in CPR, first responders, paramedics and the doctors at Unity and Mercy hospitals for saving his life.
"Besides the excellent care I got over the two weeks after that, it all starts with guys like this who can come in, who know what to do instantly," said Frankel.
Fewer than 10 percent of people who go into sudden cardiac arrest survive. Frankel is healthy enough to once again volunteer as a photographer at this year's USA Cup youth soccer tournament.
