Petal High coach released from hospital
June 26, 2010
Petal High School girls basketball coach Tommy Edwards was dismissed from an Alabama hospital Saturday after suffering cardiac arrest on Monday and heart surgery on Tuesday.
The Petal team was playing its fourth game at a basketball camp at the University of Alabama on Monday when Edwards' heart got out of rhythm. Medical personnel at the camp had a defibrillator and kept him alive until emergency responders came to his aid.
"He had a lot of blood going in the wrong direction," said Edwards' wife, Nancy, who also was at the camp. "I watched him turn purple twice."
