Bystanders’ Quick Actions Help Revive Man Found on Congress Avenue Bridge

By David C. Doolittle, The Blotter

The quick actions of several people, including an Austin police supervisor, helped a man who was found without a pulse to begin breathing again this morning on the Congress Avenue bridge, an EMS official said today.

Emergency responders received several calls about the man who was found not breathing on the sidewalk about 9 a.m., Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services spokesman Warren Hassinger said.

Several people stopped to render aid, including one who began chest compressions on the 45-year-old man, Hassinger said. A police supervisor with an automated external defibrillator in his car also stopped and began attempting to revive the man, Hassinger said.
