Letters: Perry Tipler Staff Saved Student's Lifethe northwestern.comThank you to Perry Tipler Middle School administration and staff. We are the parents of Kyle Makurat, the 13-year-old boy that went into cardiac arrest during gym class on September 11, 2009 at Perry Tipler Middle School. First and foremost we would like to thank the heroic individuals at Tipler who administered CPR to Kyle and saved his life. Gym teacher Brad Clark, Dean of Students Duey Unbehaun and Principal Ann Schultz worked together as a team to keep Kyle alive until paramedics arrived. We are eternally grateful to them for not only being in the right place at the right time, but for knowing exactly what to do with the skills that they had learned about CPR training and recertification. In addition to those individuals, we would also like to extend our gratitude to the rest of the staff at Tipler for their tremendous support of our other two sons, Andy and Ryan, while we stayed near Kyle as he recovered in Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. As difficult as it was to be away from them on a daily basis, we took comfort in knowing that they were in good hands with our Tipler family every day.
