CHAPTER NEWS AND EVENTS
The Chapter held a meeting in August 2009. At the meeting three initiatives were discussed. Another meeting will be set in the next couple of months to discuss them in further detail and to discuss a strategy for each. The following are the initiatives:
- On November 14, 2009 SCAA of Michigan plans to have a presence in the form of a booth at a student screening event where they will discuss information about SCD and the importance of screening. They are also considering the possibility of having a PSA playing regarding CPR training and public awareness issues.
- A meeting is being planned for the end of October that will include some community-oriented programming and speakers. This would be a meeting geared towards community information and awareness of SCD.
- A professional conference in the spring of 2010 is being discussed based that would be a half or full day conference including professional speakers and topics for physicians and allied health care.
The Chapter Kickoff Meeting on June 24, 2009, 6:30 - 8:00 pm, was a success. Members began the meeting with appetizers and networking, then they conducted screenings, heard from a family who endured an SCA, and ended the meeting by discussing the vision of the chapter and how each member fits into the vision.
