CPR Event Planned in May (Event #2)
From: The Selina Journal - Salina, KS
A community CPR event is planned to teach hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills to kick off National EMS Week, which is May 19 to 25.
The Friends and Family CPR event is free, but participants are required to register in advance for one of the sessions, which will be held May 18. The 90-minute sessions -- from 8:30 to 10 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. to noon; or 1 to 2:30 p.m. -- will be limited to 200 people per session. Sessions will be held at the 4-H Building in Kenwood Park.
Registration forms will be available at fire stations 2, 3 and 4; registration can also be completed online at emsweek.salinafd.org.
At the training, conducted by the Salina Fire Department, participants will learn CPR skills, but it will not be a certification course. The event is aimed at saving lives by teaching both young adults and older people the importance of early CPR intervention, according to a news release from the fire department.
The chance of surviving a heart attack is improved when CPR is rendered quickly, 911 is called and patients are taken to a hospital, the statement said.
