RSA Summer Institute in Madison - What's in it for you?

The RSA Summer Institute in Madison – from June 1 through June 7 2015 – is an excellent opportunity to devote several days to the study and discussion of a topic in rhetoric that’s always intrigued you, that represents an emerging area of research for you and the field, or that you simply want to learn more about.

The seminars and workshops we’ve put together provide the opportunity to explore a cohesive set of ideas over an extended period of time, and are led by one or two senior scholars with expertise in a subfield of rhetorical study. They provide an excellent place to learn about new advances in the field, and to work through a set of ideas with engaged colleagues of all ranks, from graduate students to tenured faculty. Many seminars and workshops are designed to give participants the chance to bring work in progress to share with the leaders and other participants, while others are focused on professional development and institutional issues. All seminars and workshops are meant to cross the disciplinary boundaries in rhetorical scholarship, and are led by teacher-scholars in both English and Communications.

I can tell you from personal experience that the workshops and seminars at the RSA Summer Institute represent a truly transformative opportunity to work with some of the smartest and most generous people in our field. Come to Madison in 2015 and find out for yourself.

Michael Bernard-Donals
2015 Institute Director
