Governor Kasich's Proposed Budget Released - How Does it Affect Ohio Chiropractors?
On March 15th the Governor’s office released their proposed budget for Ohio. The OSCA is always concerned that when it comes to balancing a budget, all is fair in love and war. We have been the victims of budget cuts in the past so we have been working diligently with our lobbying firm and chiropractic supporters in Congress to ensure we remain a part of the Medicaid budget.
Nikki Reiss, from our lobbying firm shared the following with us today;
“While there are many significant changes to the Medicaid portion of the state budget, we are happy to report that in the Governor’s recently introduced version, optional services (Chiropractic being one of them) remain a part of the overall plan. The actual language of the bill is not yet finished, but in several documents from both the Governor’s office and the Office of Health Transformation explaining the budget they have specifically stated that optional services remain an important part of the Medicaid system and continue as a part of the 525 Medicaid line item. We will continue to monitor the budget as it moves through the House and the Senate. In addition, the State Chiropractic Board received a small increase in funding for both FY 12 and FY 13.”
At this point we are optimistic that there will be no negative changes for chiropractic with Ohio Medicaid.
