MUA “Certification” DVD

In Texas, the MAM or MUA (manipulation under anesthesia) procedure has come under fire and needle electromyography has also been threatened. The profession needs to remain diligent in protecting their ability as chiropractic physicians to provide these same services to all Ohioans. This summary is to express our concerns on post-graduate advanced practice training issues.

It has been brought to our attention that a DVD is being sold to physicians offering them full MUA "certification" as required by our State Board, for simply buying a training disc. The key to obtaining our advanced training privileges is high quality post-graduate education and maintaining the highest standards and clinical competencies. We believe this type of long distance learning represents a radical departure from our current educational standards. MUA and EMG have always been taught using both didactic and fellowship training components with hands on experience, using actual patients under direct supervision. In the opinion of the OSCA MUA Subcommittee, competency will not be achieved by watching a DVD. For more information, please contact subcommittee chair, Dr. David Radford, at DCR8888@aol.com.
