Members’ Health Insurance

Last year the OSCA investigated the potential for an association (group employee) health insurance program that would be offered to members and their staff. In an effort to determine the feasibility of the program, we asked members to complete a survey to determine the needs and interests of our members. Those demographics were then taken to various carriers to assess their interest in providing group insurance to OSCA members at discounted rates, underwriting concessions, and other product enhancements by considering the OSCA membership as one large risk pool. Unfortunately the carriers were not willing to look at our potential as one group. Without the group, each office would need to be medically underwritten so there would be no cost reduction opportunity. This may be due to pending national health care legislation as well as the economic climate.
