October 14-15, 2011: Clinical Instructor Education & Credentialing Program

  • Pre-registration Only by Thursday, September 16, 2010.
  • Absolutely no late or on site registrations accepted.
  • Course limited to first 25 registrants

This program is recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as the Clinical Instructor (CI) Education and Credentialing Program and is being sponsored by the Ohio Physical Therapy Association.  The course has been designed for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants with an interest in clinical education.

The program addresses issues of planning & preparing for physical therapy students during their clinical education experiences; developing learning experiences & supporting ongoing learning through questioning and effective feedback.  Skills of performance evaluation are discussed, as well as the identification and management of students with exceptional situations.  The program closes with a comprehensive look at legal implications for clinical educators, including issues presented by ADA legislation.

The program includes both didactic components & an Assessment Center.  The Assessment Center provides physical therapy participants with the opportunity to apply information from the program in simulated situations.  Successful completion of each station in the Assessment Center results in the awarding of APTA CI Credentialing.  It is essential for each physical therapy participant to attend all didactic sessions of the Course and the Assessment Center in its entirety, in order to be awarded both credentialing and OPTA approved CEUs.

The Course & Assessment Center will be useful for both new and experienced clinical and academic educators.  While the information presented covers basic skills, the interactive tasks and large and small group discussions will be of benefit even to experienced educators and managers.

The APTA Credentialed Trainers for this program are Marcy Stalvey, PT, MS, NCS and Sandra Flack, PT, MS
