COA Honors Two Physicians

The Columbus Osteopathic Association honored two individuals with awards at its Annual Meeting, April 8, 2010, at J. Liu Restaurant in Worthington.  John C. Auseon, DO, received the James F. Sosnowski, DO, Distinguished Service Award, and Richard J. Snow, DO, received the William I. Linder, DO, Advocate Award.

Auseon, a retired cardiologist, has been a strong voice for osteopathic medicine and a leader of the profession in central Ohio ever since he came to Columbus in 1967.  He co-founded the Doctors Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and served as its director for close to 20 years.  In that position and as a clinical assistant professor of Internal Medicine, he was a mentor and teacher to countless students, interns, and residents.  He remains active within osteopathic circles, chairing the Doctors Hospital Heritage Endowment Committee and the OhioHealth Medical Education Subcommittee, and serving on the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation Board of Directors, OhioHealth Corporation Board of Directors, and OhioHealth Quality Care Committee.

Snow, a recognized national leader in the quality care arena, has spent his career working to improve quality care standards and patient care.  He has been actively involved in a statewide initiative established by the Ohio General Assembly and Gov. Ted Strickland to improve the coverage, cost, and quality of Ohio’s health insurance and health care system.  Serving as the osteopathic profession’s representative on the Ohio Health Care Coverage and Quality Council, Snow has been instrumental in developing a definition and identifying the characteristics of a medical home.

During the business portion of the meeting, COA’s out-going president, John A. Cocumelli, DO, was recognized for his dedicated leadership, and Paige S. Gutheil Henderson, DO, was installed as COA president for the 2010-2011 program year.

The educational program, Cardiovascular Update 2010, was presented by Manmohan K. Katapadi, MD.  The meeting was sponsored by Forest Pharmaceutical.
