International Marketing
Current Projects
The Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) and soybean checkoff has led the way in promoting Ohio soybean in international markets. International Marketing projects supported by the soybean checkoff in recent years have included:
Soybean Exports to ChinaEstablished in 2006 by OSC, in a unique partnership with the Ohio Department of Development's Global Markets Division, the Ohio China Office seeks to increase Ohio's exports of soybeans to China, a market that accounted for more than half of all U.S. soybean exports in 2010.

OSC supports the efforts of the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) to market pork exports in Japan and South Korea, which drives higher consumption of soybean meal in the U.S. in the form of animal feed.
Food Grade Soybean Exports to AsiaOSC promotes Ohio food-grade soybeans to customers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia through a contract with the international marketing firm Strategic Market Development.
Through a partnership with the U.S.A Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC), OSC is promoting increased exports of U.S. poultry in Mexico, driving consumption of U.S. soybean meal.
Soybean Meal Exports to Europe
OSC promotes U.S. soybean meal as the preferred feed source for European livestock nutrition, through a project with the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC). The goal is to strengthen the domestic processing industry by adding more value here at home.
Human Consumption of Soy in India
Through a partnership with the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), OSC works to promote more soy food consumption in India. Soy is not a traditional source of protein in the Indian diet, so this project seeks to drive higher consumption of soy in school meal programs and government nutrition program.
Containerized ShippingThrough several initiatives, OSC is exploring opportunities to promote increased exports of Ohio soybeans in shipping containers. With a unique combination of high-quality soybeans and logistics infrastructure, Ohio can capitalize on this emerging transportation trend.
AquacultureThrough projects administered by the U.S. Soybean Export Council, OSC has promoted the use of soy as a feedstock to fast-growing aquaculture industries in the Middle East and Asia.
OSC supports participation by OSC board members and staff in international business development missions and market education trips to markets such as Japan, China, Israel, India, Argentina and Paraguay.
World Initiative for Soy in Human HealthThrough a partnership with the American Soybean Association's World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), OSC has helped to promote soy protein to developing countries to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition, while at the same time opening up new international markets for U.S. soybeans.
